Interview with Mrs. Julie Graham
by Ethan Kwan and Kamryn Hansen - fifth grade students
"Why Picture Books Are Important"
Thank you to everyone who participated in VT Intergenerational Walk and Roll To School Day! We had three walking/rolling locations - what a great way to support a healthy body and a healthy environment! We hope this inspires many of our families to continue the healthy "habit" of walking/rolling to school.

During Feburary, Chamberlin School celebrated I Love to Read Month.

VSO "Fiddlesticks" Assembly
Thank you to the families and staff that joined us for International Walk to School Day on Wednesday, October 3rd!

Destiny Africa Choir
“It’s an interesting unique experience,” announced Emma after the performance. She also said it was fun to witness different kinds of dance. The Destiny Africa Choir first performed a dance using sticks. It was a fun way to start the assembly. The next dance was really fascinating. While they danced, they each got up one by one and told us their name, age, what they like to do, and what they would like to become when they grow up. Some want be teachers and one wants to be a pirate. All in all, they performed four dances: one with sticks, one that tells about them, and two that are unique from Africa. It was difficult for me to imagine singing to some of the dances while dancing at the same time. It was stunning to watch. The way in which they kept themselves together and so coordinated was mind blowing! The assembly ended with all the Chamberlin students and teachers dancing together; it was a great way to end the assembly. “It was a fun way to experience different cultures,” another student, Emily commented. I think it was, too. Mrs. Brown, Kindergarten teacher put it the best that we all felt:

ROCK OUR WORLD AT CHAMBERLIN SCHOOL
In order to teach the Chamberlin community the benefits of healthy eating, the students baked enough bread to serve to our entire school population during lunch. It is our hope that they continue this service learning monthly. They also made reusable lunch sacks that will be sold during parent/teacher conferences and the Scholastic Book Fair next week.
Chamberlin students reflect on their work creating a healthy, more sustainable place to live in South Burlington while reducing their carbon footprint.
The music video below, "The Life We Got" is a production by the band Alma Desnuda that was written just for Rock Our World. You will see the students' contributions with their vocal tracks and their video clips. Look for Vermont and our students!
For thirty years, UVM’s College of Education and Social Services and VT Supervisory Unions & School Districts have joined to honor outstanding teachers. Chamberlin Hurricane Relief Collection
Many of our VT neighbors experienced great loss from the impact of Tropical Storm Irene. In response, Chamberlin families donated food, toiletries, and pet supplies to benefit the Waterbury Food Shelf. Pictured here is Mrs. Simpson's 2nd grade class with the donated items. Thank you to our guidance counselor, Mr. Melen, for organizing this wonderful community connection!

4th Grade Rain Garden
4th graders in Mr. Provost's class, Mrs. Detterman's class, and Mrs. Tan's class worked with Justin Kenney from the Chittenden County Stream Team to create a rain garden. This garden, in front of the school, will absorb up to 2 inches of stormwater run off from our school roof. Rain gardens improve water quality and prevent erosion. What a great learning experience for their science unit, Land and Water!

First Day at Chamberlin
